Saturday, May 3, 2025

10am - 12noon

and

2pm-4pm

This is a TOUR OF 4 HOUSES on South Howell Street, each of them in a different stage of preservation and restoration being done by our President, Adrienne Copland.  This tour intend to show the progression of restoration of houses from beginning to end; it is a glimpse into the realities of historic preservation, and what a real restoration project looks like in Rocky Mount, NC.

Beginning at a house in a neglected, abandoned state - typical of many of Rocky Mount's houses that desperately need saving - and progressing through two more houses in different stages of restoration, and ending at the last house, which is our President's current home, in an "almost" finished state.

The tours will last two hours, with approximately 30 minutes for each house.  Due to size constraints in the houses, we will have two time slots to register for.  You can join the tour at 10am-12noon, or you can join the tour at 2pm-4pm. STAY TUNED for details on how to register.

THIS IS A WALKING TOUR that will go inside each house and include details of the history and current plans for the restoration.  Some of the houses are in very rough shape and the conditions are not pleasant.  There may be uneven flooring and trip hazards.  PLEASE WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES. Two of the houses have no lights, no heat, no air and no water.  There will be a bathroom and refreshments at the last house only.
